Hello, my name is moriah and i would like to share with you this very short story. This is a Ranger’s Apprentice and the Ascendance Trilogy crossover. BEWARE: THIS STORY CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR BOTH SIRISES. (they are not just little spoilers they are like major spoilers) and i would like to add that this is my first story so do not give me a hard time. (the grammar and spelling might not be right) well i hope you enjoy it and I will see you later!
“Sire!” boomed a loud voice as a burly figure burst into the king's throne room while him and his regents were in the middle of a private meeting. “Sire!, forgive my intrusion but an armed, cloaked man is insisting on seeing you immediately” the king was more than a little annoyed at the intrusion but since it came from one of his trusted companions he let it slide. “Mot, would you care to tell me who this armed, cloaked man is or why is he insisting on seeing me immediately?”
“He says his name is Will Treaty. And he says that he has an urgent message for the king.”
“Well where is he?”
“He is-” Mot was cut of by the giant wooden doors of the throne room swinging open and almost hitting him in the back.
“King Jaron! I need to see you in private for a little talk” the man who was presumed to be Will Treaty shouted forgetting all formalities as him and his companion walked into the room without invitation. “And I assume you are Will Treaty?
“Yes, but no time for formalities. I need to talk to you now.”
“Ok, have Mot take you to my study.”
“Umm, sire not to question your judgment, but don't you think this matter can wait until you are finished with this matter?” the king and Will both glared at him until he complied. “Fine, have it your way. I just believe that whatever this small man has to say could wait till after this meeting.” Will continued to glare at him for reasons that were understood, yet it was quite funny for the man was fairly small. “I could kill you right now if I wasn't such a nice person.” Will said flatly and without humor. “Well that is very nice of you not to try.” seyed Mot obviously amused at the small man in front of him. “I would not underestimate him.” everyone's eyes moved toward the man behind Will.”And who might you be?” quashed Jaron.
“I am sir Horace.”
“Well if this news is so engent let us be off and get on with it then!” so the fore men headed of to the king's study.
“So are you going to tell me or not?” said Jaron after they had entered and sat.
”Well I just thought that you might want to know that there is a small army headed towards your castle destroying anyone or anything in its path.”
“What?!”
“Oh was I not clear-” he was cut off by Mot
“That is in not possible.”
“And way is that?” asked Horace.
“Our scouts would have seen them.”
“They have archers.” stated Will
“Someone would have seen an army from here.” he rebuttled
“They are talking the back roads that lead straight to your castle.” Horace said as he jumped into the debate.
“I told Tobis that they would be used against us!” shouted Jaron
“Could we scold him later?” prompted Mot. “So if they are really coming we need to act fast” he continued
“Yes, that would be a smart move on your part.” Will said sarcastically
“Thank you for the obvious Will.” said Mot. “Jaron, are you still there?”
“O-oh, sorry Mot.” Jaron stuttered as he wiped his head up to eye level as if he just woke up from a trance.
“Call in Roardan, Tobis, Harlowe, Imogen and Amarinda.” Jaron ordered Mot. “And I need to talk to you for information.” turning to look at Will and Horace. Mot went to do his task and the three men sat in silence for a minute waiting for one another to speak. Jaron was the first to speak. “How big was the army?” asked Jaron
“I was about two legions.” stated Horace “Plus around ten knights and forty archers.” he continued
“”Thank you, that is a relief i just fought a war against three of my surrounding countries and was expecting some huge army.” Jaron said with a tone that suggested that a heavy load was lifted of his back.
“We said it was a small army, did you think we misjudged the size?.” Will sound offended as he asked.
“Well to be honest, I expected you to do so since you are just a forister.” geshtinging to Will.”And you seem so young to be a knight.” pointing to the burly young man that sat before him. “I am a highly trained ranger not a forister.” said Will with a little bit of annoyance creeping into his voice.
“A what?” asked Jaron
“A ranger.” he said simply
“What is a-” he stopped when he heard a knock on the door as Mot, Roardan: the captain of the gard and Jaron’s greatest friend, Tobias: one of regents and a friend of Jaron, Admarya: Tobias’s wife and princess of a surrounding country, Imogen: the queen and Amarinda’s best friend and lastly Harlowe: the king’s prime regent and Roardan’s father walked in. “Jaron what is ron? Mot said you needed to see us immediately. And who are these people?.....” ranted Tobias as he burst through the door.
“Slow down Tobias.” warned Amarinda through muffeled laughs. “I am sure Jaron has a plan for whatever is coming our way - right Jaron?” she seyed suddenly sounding worried.
“Huh? O-oh sorry ah yes maybe I think - well at least half of one.” he seyed.
“Well would you mind telling us that half a plan?” asked Mot.
“First, Mot and Roardan go rally the troops, Harlowe get everyone as far away from the tratores road a possible, Tobias go rally all the physicians and get them at the ready in the throne room, Amarinda and Imogen you will help the seventies and physicians with anything they need help with: getting new bandages, setting up new beds, preparing food, anything. And I will keep interviewing these too and then join you in battal. Well what are you doing just standing here go, go, go!!” demanded the king. Everyone started running out the door to the tasks they have been assigned. Imogen came up to Jaron’s cheek and kissed it “I love you.” she whispered in his ear. “Don’t kill your sellef out there ok?” she ordered him in her sweet and loving voice.
“I’ll do my best, but you know me, always getting hurt.” he seyed with a smile.
“Jaron, I mean it, I can’t lose you again.” she demanded.
“I know, I was kidding with you, now you go help Ama-” he was saying as he got up from his desk chair but he stopped in mid- stand. “Owe, owe, owe.” he winced.
“Jaron, are you ok?! Is it your leg, do you need me to call Tobias?!” she asked urgently.
“No I was only playing with you again.” he stood back up and stifled a laugh.
“Why you.” she seyed angrily as she flicked him on the forehead. “Goodbye Jaron.” she seyed after she gave him a kiss. After she left the room Jaron plopped back on the chair and held his leg and winced. After a moment Jarons attention was once again turned to Will and Horace. “Sorry for the interruption, so you were going to tell me what you are.” Jaron seyed with a high level of curiosity.
“Yes, I am a ranger.” Will stetted
“Well I got that! But what is a ranger?” Jaron asked.
“Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Highly trained in the skills of battle and surveillance, we fight the battles before the battles reach the people.” he answered
“Where are you from?” asked Jaron.
“We are from Araluen.” Horace put in.
“So then what are you doing in Catharya?” Jaron inquired.
“We were escorting a curer by the name of Alyss Mainwing here and back to Araluen.” replied Will
“And why did you leave you post and come hear?” questioned Jaron
“She asked us to wait at the inn we were staying at and she would go on to the castle. She said if she was not back at the inn the following evening to start heading hear.” Will replied
“Why was she coming to the castle in the first place?” inquired Jaron
“She had a message from our king.” replied Will
“Do you know what the message was?” Jaron asked
“We asked her but she said it was on a need to know basis and that we did not need to know.” Will stated “Did she ever turn up here?” he continued
“Not that I know of but I will ask Harlowe. I think that is all that I need from you so you can leave now, I will have someone come and let you know what we find you can stay here until you find her.” offered the king
“Well we would like to help you with fighting to give us something to do.”
“Are you sure that is a good idea?” Jaron asked “I bet you look to small to even draw that bow back to full draw let alone shoot it.”
“Is that a challenge?”
“What if it is?
“You're going down in flames.” Will seyed with the hint of a smile creeping to the edges of his mouth.
“Ha! Your joking?”
“Let us see, if i win your second priority right now is helping us find Alyss. But if you win you do not have to help us at all.”
“Your on! Today after lunch”
“No, right now.” Will challenged
“Let’s go.” Jaron whispered in his face
